Cold Weather Issues and Remedies

There are some cold weather issues haunting many FUVs. One main issue is where the temperature drops down into the 20s. If it gets low enough, low 20s, then heat from charging on an EVSE may not keep the heat transfer plate warm enough.

Our theory involves the temp sensors in the inverters. When the temp falls too low, the controller sees that as out of range temp and potentially a failed sensor (non valid reading). It then throws up an error and limits the drive. This is likely a protective measure made in error. Programming of the temperature range might be narrow. At around 25 degrees and above, if you leave the FUV plugged in, the heat transfer plate gets it warm enough to be in range and not see it as an error.
