How Do You Know the 12v Battery Died?

There are several clues that may indicate your 12v battery has died or is dying:

  1. When you touch the dashboard touchscreen, it does NOT come on. The screen should always come on when touched, even if a key is not used.
  2. The battery is 3 or more years old and is either the original AGM type battery or has been replaced with a lead acid type battery. LiFePO4 (lithium) batteries tend to last much longer, up to 10 years.
  3. If you put your vehicle in cold storage mode and you charge the 12v with a trickle charger, the vehicle now works and can be driven or the touchscreen comes on. The 12v may (or may not) need to be replaced. It could be some other issues that keeps the system from charging the 12v battery.
  4. There are screen irregularities where the screen flashes.
  5. When charging, the screen doesn’t come on.
The biggest clue is definitely #1, the touchscreen doesn’t come on when touched.
